About the Project

Hilton Head Island – Our Future will create an inclusive vision and roadmap to the future.

Our Future is the Town of Hilton Head Island’s long range visioning process to ensure that residents, business owners, local institutions and all community stakeholders have a voice in future decision making, and to provide the Town with the insight needed to set intelligent, coordinated, and creative future priorities.

This project, running through 2017 and wrapping up in early 2018, will engage the community in a series of conversations designed to identify scenarios for the future.

  • Community survey and online polling. This will be a data driven approach, and so the community will be asked to complete an online community survey, and respond to other online polling throughout the process.
  • Think Tank. The project will conduct a highly participatory workshop, or Think Tank, over two days with local stakeholders to develop a series of plausible futures for the community.
  • 20-30 Community Engagement workshops. It is anticipated that 20-30 workshops will be held to engage citizens in a discussion of key issues and trends, and to discuss identified future scenarios, and their implications and impacts.
  • Data visualization. The survey results and project reports will be presented in a unique, innovative and interactive data visualization platform that will allow community members to examine the data collected for themselves.
  • Final Community Vision. Based on the results of the extensive public engagement and research, a final Community Vision Report will be developed, including a recommended implementation action plan for the future. This will incorporate recommended strategies for policy development to build on and complement recent planning efforts (including Comp Plan 2012, Vision 2025 and HHI Vision 2030) and to represent the results received through community and stakeholder engagement.
