Post Pandemic Consultation

Future iQ and St George’s House hosted the follow-up Future of Urban Living Post Pandemic online consultation on Friday 22nd January, 2021.

This consultation continued the exploration into The Future of Urban living in light of the ongoing global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. 30 guests from 18 countries across 5 continents attended the virtual event.

Using the scenarios and outcomes from the 2018 consultation, among the issues which were explored were:

  • Has the pandemic redefined cities?
  • If so what will be the long term consequences and changes resulting from this redefinition?
  • How do we best prepare for such changes? Are these changes elastic or inelastic?
  • Are our previous assumptions still valid and consistent, or has the pandemic changed the trajectory and course of people moving to cities and of becoming an ‘urban dwelling species’?

The topic areas were:

  • Social Fabric and Structure
  • Distribution of Power and Influence
  • Geographic and Demographic Distribution
  • Future of City Lifestyles – impact of automation
  • The Built Environment
  • Smart Cities and Application of Technology
  • Resource Cycle (Food, Air and Water, etc)
  • Movement and Mobility

After such a successful virtual follow on consultation, discussion boards have been set up for the participants to enter their thoughts and solutions on all of the topics online.

A follow on virtual session will then be held on March 12th, 2021 inviting participants back for a shorter virtual event to build on solutions for the future of urban living as we move out of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Future of Urban Living Post Pandemic paper will be produced following this input in April/May 2021.
