What is City Visioning and why is it important for Wayzata? How does the City Visioning fit into the Comprehensive Plan? How does this fit with the Lake Effect Project? What is the project’s timeline? Why should I get involved? How can I get involved? In addition to the survey, residents and stakeholders can get involved by nominating someone to take part in the Think Tank Workshop. This workshop will be used as a tool to build a better understanding of the current drivers and future aspirations of how community members and stakeholders of Wayzata want to develop the City and how to allocate its resources. About 70-100 key representative community and stakeholders will participate in this Think Tank workshop. Nominations can be submitted via the Think Tank Nomination tab above.

After the Think Tank, there will be 15-20 targeted visioning workshops. Community members will be able to register for one of these workshops on this project lab page towards the end of September.

If I have additional questions, who should I contact?

A Visioning process allows our residents and all city stakeholders to explore the city’s assets and determine where they would like to see Wayzata in 10, 20, 30 years’ time. It is a proactive and highly-engaged process that enables residents to take control and identify their own future. The visioning process assists our community in describing our shared vision, builds consensus and ensures everyone is working towards the same future.

A well-developed city vision sets the stage for a well-supported and consequently very effective comprehensive plan. Wayzata 2040, Sailing Ahead will not decide on one specific action, address one specific problem, or construct one specific building. It will create shared goals, which will ensure that every decision we make in Wayzata’s Comprehensive Plan brings us closer to the vision that we have for the entire community.

Wayzata’s Lake effect project was a planning project that engaged the Wayzata community and had as a focus Wayzata’s lakefront. The Lake Effect project came up with a very solid and concrete development plan that was approved by the city and is in its fundraising stage. Wayzata 2040, Sailing Ahead visioning project will be a city wide comprehensive project that combines the city’s values, aspirations, and economic and social opportunities. It will build on the decisions and aspirations from the Lake Effect project and rely on the city residents’ deep knowledge to build a vision for the entire city. At the center of the process will be what the people of Wayzata want the city to be in 2040.

The project kick off will happen August 3rd and it will be completed at the beginning of 2018.

Providing your input and perspective in this effort won’t just influence a decision for the next six months or a year, but will influence and define decisions impacting our community for the next few decades.

Help us spread the community survey. Our hefty goal is that every single Wayzata resident hears about the survey and completes it. We also hope that many people who work and visit Wayzata also join the conversation and complete the survey. The survey can be found at https://lab.future-iq.com/wayzata-2040-sailing-ahead/
