About the Project

About the Project

The New England Region contains an important concentration of Defense Industry suppliers, including a large number of Tier One suppliers and a wide range of SME’s. Part of the New England Regional Defense Industry Collaboration’s early work has identified the need to draw the critical supply chains, and their supporting ‘ecosystems’ together in new and innovative ways.

Early planning by the New England Regional Defence Industry Collaborative has highlighted the need to work in two key dimensions. Refer to Think-Tank report https://lab.future-iq.com/new-england-regional-defense-industry-collaboration/

These dimensions have been described as:

  • Regional collaboration – Creating an intentional focus on region-wide collaborative efforts. Agencies reach across state boundaries seeking larger scale of collaboration. This encourages industry collaboration, both across sectors and within supply chains.
  • Multi-disciplinary approach – There is deliberate investment in developing an integrated multi-disciplinary approach to industry technical solutions. Resources are shared between technical clusters, and issues are explored in a systems-wide approach.

These principles are embedded and reflected in work being undertaken. Given the nature of the work, innovative partnerships and collaborative approaches are being pursued.

The State of Vermont Department of Economic Development (VTDED), acts as the fiscal agent for the New England Regional Defense industry Collaboration (NERDIC) project, which is funded by the Office of Economic Adjustment, Department of Defence.
